Week 3/4: Now Loading..
Work began in earnest this week with a trip to see Science Photographer Kym Cox at her studio in Poole. Having met me previously a few weeks earlier, we had discussed collaboration and mentoring on my proposed subject of visualising music through substances and surfaces. From that meeting and undertaking a few experiments it became clear that although this project had great ambition and potential, it could prove to be impractical and was indeed very much focused on methodology and not necessarily final image presentation.

I have been look at other practitioners in my research, and I was directed to the work of Florence Elias, who films soap bubbles responding to music. Examples of her work can be seen here:
The attraction for me to this project is the connectivity between music and visual responses through sound waves and vibrations. My lab-style setup is almost ready and yet whether this will finally be my major project remains unclear. The first few experiments and results will determine that. In the meantime I continue to explore the work of other visual artists such as Olafur Eliasson who works with among things, liquid in his installations.
